All I want for Christmas – Part 2

16 Dec

I am at work, but Lord knows I can’t focus on it. So, I shall continue my Christmas Wish List.

Something to keep me warm at night…

Nothing says sexy like velour footie pajamas with a hood.  Can’t you just see me singing Santa Baby in this? HA! Sexy or not, I would be very nice to the person who got me this warm little number.

These boots were made for walking…

…around the house.  Can you tell I live in a cold climate? These bootie slippers were on the Target website, but I’m sure you could find something similar almost anywhere else.

Baby it’s cold outside…

but this coat would keep me sooo warm.  This is my DREAM coat by Max Mara Atelier. It’s $2,450. it’s double faced wool. I tried it on in the store and I actually contemplated shop lifting.  I would settle for something like it.

Why yes, I am a member of my local NPR station.

Toot Toot! (sound of the nerd train pulling into the station)

This handy dandy Grace wireless internet radio would allow me to listen to EVERY NPR station in the nation. As well as international radio, satellite radio, Pandora. I really like radio, I don’t know if you picked up on that.

Everyone always wants to lose weight in the new year. Well praise the Lord, for the first time I don’t.  I’m quite content with who I am right now, but that doesn’t mean we get lazy and sloppy. I am a newly wed after all, and despite the footie-hoodie pajamas, I would like to keep Mr. S interested.  So, to further my health and wellness goals:

A Polar heart rate monitor.  It also tracks calories burned. And:

New Sneakers. However, I’m not saying this is the pair I want. I like to go to Running Fit and be fitted for a sneaker because I have weird feet. I do like New Balance though.

And finally…

AND

So I was recently the victim of a heinous crime, where my beloved mac book was stolen. Lesson to be learned here? Make sure you back EVERYTHING up. All the time. I try to console myself with phrases like, you were due for a new one anyway. Right. A new macbook would be awesome, and so would an ipad. The ipad just for kicks.

A few parting thoughts. Diamonds are a girls best friend. I wouldn’t say no to a pair of flat grey suede riding boots. Who doesn’t love a coach purse?

What do you want for Christmas?

All I Want for Christmas – Part One

15 Dec

So I’m a HUGE blogging slacker. Mea culpa readers. I have no real excuse other than laziness. We always find time for the things that are important.

So, what’s important now? Christmas. There aren’t a ton of things I want, however, I need to make a list for Mr. S. so I’m going to post it here with pictures and links 🙂 Now, this is not just a christmas list, it’s a wish list, so some of the items will be crazy and outlandish. Shall we get started?

Let’s start with some crazy stuff

OH MY WORD!!! Santa I have been EXTRA nice this year, please don’t listen to what anyone tells you to the contrary.  I would just roll over and die if I received this. Can you imagine?

I love love love it when I receive the Anthropologie Catalog in the mail. I can’t wear the clothes. I want to have that aesthetic, that look, so badly, but I don’t. I’m not tall and willowy. But a gal can dream. I Love these shoes

I love that they’re green, and I wish I could get a pic of the outfit in the catalog that went with the shoes.

I love these clothbound Penguin Classic Books.  How wonderful would these be on a bedside table, or the table next to your reading nook.

And speaking of a reading nook, Mr. S. and I will be moving soon. I would love for our new bedroom to be large enough to accommodate a chaise lounge like this one at Ikea

So, this is the beginning of the list. I also need things like socks and undies, but that’s boring. Stay tuned for more Christmas wants!

A little of this and that

12 Nov

Many things going on, many many things. I’ve been collecting quotes for one of my Christmas present ideas, and here are a few of my favorites:

You don’t win friends with salad.

Homer Simpson

“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

Winnie the Pooh

See, I’m on this new diet where I don’t eat for a week and when I think I’m going to faint, I eat a cube of cheese. I figure I’m one stomach flu away from my goal weight.

The Devil Wears Prada

I am also very tired, and more than a little worn out at work.  I wish I was here:

Or perhaps here

But alas, I am in Michigan. Things could be worse.

Bonne nuit.

Holly Homemaker

If I had my way, I would sit home and craft and cook and read blogs all day. I would sew all my own clothes… but I wouldn’t clean. I would hire someone to clean because I absolutely HATE cleaning.  So, in my dream world, today I would be sewing this shirt:

But maybe with a smaller bow.

Do you know about Burda Style? It’s a pattern shop out of Germany, but it’s also this blog/sewing community where people post patterns and pictures and tips, etc.  I get my weekly e-blast and wish I was a better seamstress or had more time to perfect my craft.

If I could go home and eat WHATEVER I wanted, right this minute, I would go home and make this to eat:

Curry Goat. Oh man, when I get to thinking about West Indian food, I start getting really homesick.  I found this recipe for Curry Goat here at eCurry and I can’t wait to try it. I’m sure my mother has a recipe, but man, I want some of that tonight.

I would also be spending time, making gifts for people like this:

Some good friends of ours are having a baby. And honestly, this is the first friend with a baby who lives nearby.  I would like to give the baby something handmade, and what better than a blanket? I found the tutorial here at Sew Much Ado.

Alas, I am not a lady of leisure. I must work for a living, and cannot spend my days being Holly Homemaker.

One day…

Long Time Gone

9 Nov

Hello dear readers! Can you forgive me?  I am woefully behind in posting.  What can I say? I’m a busy girl 🙂 So, here is a mash up (can you use that term when not applied to music?) of what I’ve been doing since my last post.

Last month (ACK! Can you believe it’s already November?) I took a trip to the happiest place on earth – my alma mater Sweet Briar College. My friends and I went and had a blast! We ate in the Dining hall, we attempted to walk to the Monument at night (I say attempted because my friends are chickens), and we went to the JCrew Clearance Store which was a real experience. We found out that once a month they have these warehouse sales, where people stand in line for hours, but it is soooo worth it.  I got a cashmere hoodie for $18 that retails for $188 and one of us got a pair of beautiful grey leather boots for $30 that retail for (prepare yourself) $355.  And they do this every month. I swear if I still lived in DC I would drive down for it at least bi-monthly.

It was so fantastic to be there, but I wasn’t prepared for how it would affect me emotionally. I’ve been back to Sweet Briar since graduation, but so much of my life has changed since my last visit.  Here I was, standing in this place that is almost frozen in time for me. All the smells, and many of the sites were the same. But it was almost painful because I could feel what I felt while I was there as a student – hope, possibility. As Mrs. P put it, this was a place where anything was possible, and we had nothing but a bright future in front of us.  Well, we are now living in that future, and although many of us are actually working in our chosen careers, we wonder if we are really achieving the goals we set.  After dealing with those thoughts, I did actually walk away feeling renewed and with a new sense of possibility.

And because I believe a blog should have pictures,

here’s a collage of some pics I took that weekend.

Next up, I finished my hat! I knit this hat with me own two hands.  I borrowed the Secret Garden movie from my sister, and when I saw Mary’s hat I said, I have to have that. Sure, she’s a 9 yr old girl, I’m a grown woman. Your point? It’s super cute, and it’s warm. If you’re interested in the pattern, it’s here.

I’ve started a new diet. I don’t want to get into particulars, but it’s working. I had some people try to discourage me from another diet, but what can I say? I want thinner thighs. So far, my thighs are being really stubborn. I’ve got a week and a half left, so we’ll see how it shakes out.

I’ve got a million projects going all at the same time.

We’re almost done with our thank you cards! (However, I am so ashamed that it’s taken me so long to finish them. I’m not ungrateful -just forgetful).

I was reading one of the blogs I like, and the gal just writes one sentence or just posts a picture sometimes. I think I might start doing that. Every post doesn’t need to be thoughtful and deep 🙂

I think that’s it for the moment. If I have any thoughts, I’ll be sure to share them.

Stuff I Made : Calendars

17 Oct

I have a hard time buying certain things because I think, I can make that. Well, I love Paper Source calendars, but needed a calendar for the last 3 months of the year, so I made my own Paper Source inspired calendars.

I made these in excel, and if you’re wondering, I used the french days of the week. I got the images from this fantastic blog called The Graphics Fairy.  I also LOVE moose.  It’s my life’s ambition to see one in the wild.

I’m trying to think of the best way to mount them on the wall, but watch out everyone! You’re getting a personalized 2011 calendar from me along with your Christmas gift! Woohoo!

I’m also linking this to the Graphic’s Fairy Brag Monday

On Repeat: Book of Love

6 Oct

I have this thing where I will become obsessed with a song and listen to it on repeat until I learn all the words and it’s out of my system.  On one trip home to NY, I listened to Viva la Vida by Coldplay for 4 hours straight because that song has a lot of words, and it took me that long to memorize them all.

Over the weekend I did a wedding where the Bride picked the song Book of Love by Peter Gabriel for their first dance.  I’d never heard the song before, but immediately became obsessed.  The lyrics are:

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It’s full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing

But I love it when you read to me
And you can read me anything

The book of love has music in it
In fact that’s where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
But I love it when you sing to me
And you can sing me anything

The book of love is long and boring
And written very long ago
It’s full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
And things we’re all too young to know
But I love it when you give me things
And you ought to give me wedding rings
And I love it when you give me things
And you ought to give me wedding rings
And I love it when you give me things
And you ought to give me wedding rings
You ought to give me wedding rings

The best love songs have really simple yet profound lyrics.  They cut through the complexity of relationship and get to the heart of the matter. By the same token, I love weddings because they symbolize love in it’s most simple form.  This song is simply touching my heart. Enjoy.
