I’ve found through my former profession, that many people do not listen. They are so busy thinking of a reply to what they think I’m going to say, that they do not listen to what I am saying. So, I found myself slowing down my cadence, with the idea that the listener would have to wait so long to reply, that they would listen to more of what I was saying. But maybe that was wrong. Maybe if I speak real fast, I could get it all in before they start thinking of a reply to what they think I’m going to say, and instead think of a reply to what I actually said. Now I’m tongue tied, so I’m not saying anything.
